What is Family Faith Formation?

Family Faith Formation is a ministry that guides families through a growth in their faith. Family Faith Formation will meet 1 time a month, there are two sessions, one on Wednesday and one on Sunday. The parents and children will be learning about the same theme for a month. Family Faith Formation has sessions for grades Kindergarten to High School. All adults in the family are required to come to the parent session which is at the same time as the students session. In the off weeks the families will have lessons to discuss at home.

As a faith community how can you support Family Faith Formation? Please keep the ministry and our families in your prayers. When the once a month Faith Formation sessions meet all are welcome to come and join us. Learning about our faith is for everyone and a little refresher is good for everyone. It is important to note the we are moving from Religious Education to Family Faith Formation.

For more information on Family Faith Formation, contact Sheryl Colwell. I can be reached at dre@skdmail.org, 630-466-0303 x-109, or stop by the office Mondays-Wednesdays.

Sacramental Preparation

At St. Katharine Drexel, children are invited to receive First Reconciliation
(Confession) and First Communion in 2nd grade. Youth in 8th grade are invited to
receive the sacrament of Confirmation.
Receiving the sacraments, as well as preparing for them, is a special time of grace
for children and families. A child’s sacramental preparation is part of a lifelong
faith formation journey. Reception of a sacrament is not an end but a beginning.
Therefore, we do not offer a class for “First Communion” and “Confirmation”.
Rather, preparation for these sacraments is part of their ongoing religious
education and faith formation. Parents are the primary religious educators of
their children. This role is especially important during a child’s sacramental
preparation.
Each Family is expected to attend Mass as part of their children’s preparation.
